VMware Certified Implementation Expert - Network Virtualization (VCIX-NV)

VMware released a new certification that validates your skills and your ability to install, configure and administer VMware NSX environments: VMware Certified Implementation Expert – Network Virtualization (VCIX-NV).

This new exam (code VCIXN610) is based on vSphere v5.5 and NSX for vSphere 6.0.2.

Successful candidates demonstrate core networking skills, such as:
  • Layer 2 switching and both static and dynamic Layer 3 routing
  • integration with vSphere distributed switches
  • managing networking policies for performance, scalability, and ease of administration
  • creating and administering logical switches, Layer 2 bridges, routers, load balancers, VPNs, firewalls
  • creating and administering Edge services, such as DHCP, DNS, and NAT, configuring and managing high availability
  • operational tasks, such as user permissions and roles, automation, monitoring, logging, auditing and compliance, backup and recovery
  • troubleshooting an Enterprise-class NSX networking implementation

Three different paths are available for the certification:

  • Path 1: If you are VCP-NV certified.

    • Step 1) Required Prerequisite: Valid VCP-NV certification.

    • Step 2) Pass the following exam and get certified VMware Certified Implementation Expert — Network Virtualization (VCIX-NV)

  • Path 2: If you are VCP-DCV, VCP-Cloud, VCP-Desktop certified.

    • Step 1) Completion of the following course is RECOMMENDED: VMware NSX: Install, Configure Manage

    • Step 2) Pass the following exam and get certified VMware Certified Implementation Expert — Network Virtualization (VCIX-NV)

  • Path 3: If you hold a valid CCIE Data Center or CCIE Routing & Switching certification. Note: This path is only available until February 28, 2015

    • Step 1)Completingone the courses below is RECOMMENDED, but not required.

      • VMware NSX: Fast Track for Internetworking Experts

      • VMware NSX Technical Overview with Labs

    • Step 2) Submit verification of your Cisco Certification.

    • Step 3) Pass the following exam and get certified: VMware Certified Implementation Expert — Network Virtualization (VCIX-NV)

The VCIX-NV exam consists of approximately 17 live lab activities (preceded by a short pre-exam survey consisting of 9 questions), and the passing score for this exam is 300 (scale is from 100 to 500). The total time for this exam is 210 minutes, but candidates who take the VCIX-NV Exam and have a home address in a country where English is not a primary language will have an additional 30 minutes added to the exam time.

For those who are targeting VCDX - Network Virtualization, the VCIX-NV certification is a component of the VCDX-NV certification track.
